The Houston Police Department Deaf Positive Interaction Program (PIP) meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 3rd at 7:30 PM at Woodhaven Deaf Baptist Church (9920 Long Point). The topic for the month will be “Railroad Safety, Advance Warning Signs for the Deaf”, presented by Officer Jack Hanagriff.

Mayor Parker to attend Deaf PIP meeting

The Houston Police Department Deaf Positive Interaction Program (PIP) meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 6 at 7:30 PM at Woodhaven Deaf Baptist Church (9920 Long Point). Jeff Anderson, Executive Director of Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, will speak about the deaf initiatives MOPD has been focusing on throughout the city.

Special Guest: Mayor Annise Parker
Mayor Parker is now attending PIP sessions throughout the city. She has chosen to come to the Deaf PIP meeting as her first one. Let us welcome her.

Please come to this meeting to hear about the work the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities has been doing for the deaf community. If anyone wants to volunteer to bring a dish or refreshments, please contact Officer James Sobota at James.Sobota@cityofhouston.net.

Deaf Awareness Week 2010 – Meeting April 17 2-4 p.m.

It is that time again – to prepare for Deaf Awareness Week 2010. Last year the DAW Committee did an awesome job running Deaf Awareness Week. So now this year – we are starting off with some planning and having our first meeting of the year to prepare for DAW 2010. The meeting will be held at Metropolitian Multi-Services Center from 2 to 4 p.m. in Classroom #2 on April 17th (Saturday).

If you are interested in volunteering and assisting please feel free to show up the meeting, or email us at daw@deafhouston.org. We’re looking forward to making 2010 a successful DAW event! And we can’t do it WITHOUT you!

Come celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Northeast Houston Baptist Church (NEHBC) in Humble, TX will have a sign language interpreter for Easter Sunday and for the month of April and May 2010.

Pre sermon will be interpreted, but if no one shows, sermon won’t be interpreted. Same for April and May; Lord willing, if people come, NEHBC, on a continual basis, will have an interpreter. Come celebrate Jesus!
