Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church presents Christmas Drama 2009 “Deafville, USA II.” A continuation from last year’s play, Deafville is a small town somewhere in America. It’s a small Deaf town where people gather and share in their struggles and blessings in everyday life. The story of this year’s play is inspired by a real family and actual events. We are here to announce a 2-men tourney that will be hosted at Oakhurst on October 24th. There will be random teams/pairings based on 2 groups–low scoring averages and high scoring averages. We will use the alternate shot format. There are rules below to give you a better idea. Dionysus Theatre presents Mark Medoff’s “Children of a Lesser God”. Opening up their 12th season, Dionysus Theatre brings this beautiful play to fruition with an inclusive cast. Casting actors who are deaf, hearing impaired and of hearing, this show explores the relationship of James Leed and Sarah Norman. James Leed, a teacher at the school for the deaf falls in love with Sarah, a woman who is profoundly deaf. Through the ups and downs of learning to communicate, James realizes he can’t change a person, until he changes his heart. continue »
The Starlight Dance Studio is offering free dancing lesson for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Jill Perry, the Starlight Dance instructor is interested in providing free lessons for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing couples/individuals whom are interesting in having a fun filled learning in dancing. There will be a 2nd annual SouthWest Flag Football for the Deaf Tournament at Houston Sportsplex Complex. SWFFD will have 4 Men’s 8×8 teams, 4 Men’s 4×4 teams, and 2 Women’s 4×4 teams. After tournament, free scrimmage for Women’s 8×8, but you must sign waiver or you will not play. It has grown since last year! continue »

Minor updates on Houston Deaf Awareness Week (DAW) event on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church from 10am-4pm. Free admission, entertainment, games and door prizes. Church will sell food if you are hungry. There will be 28 vendors on site this year so bring the whole family!
