ASL Teacher Needed for 4th and 7th Grade Homeschoolers

Shining Stars Homeschooling is seeking an American Sign Language teacher for at least one seventh grade homeschool student. A few other students in 4th and 7th grades may join him for the lessons. That is yet to be determined but will be decided before sessions begin. The teacher will be responsible for teaching ASL once per week for one hour between 2:00 and 5:00 on Mondays. Instruction will take place at the student’s home in the Houston’s Spring Branch neighborhood, and materials will be provided for the teacher. This is an independent contractor position, and other assignments will be offered to the teacher as they become available.

Qualifications:

  • Available to provide services one hour per week on a weekday throughout the school year
  • Strong ASL skills
  • Able to communicate orally with parents and students
  • Either deaf education certification in at least one of the 50 states or sign language interpreter certification
  • Self-disciplined
  • Reliable transportation
  • Willing to submit to a background check

Compensation:
$20 – $25/hour, paid twice per month
