With tax season quickly approaching, the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities is getting ready for the second year of hosting the Free Deaf Tax Preparation. In order for this to be a success, we need volunteers to be trained in “Intake Specialist.” The volunteers need to be able to communicate in ASL in order to increase effective communication between the deaf tax payer and the intake specialist. The training will be a one-time, three hour course. The training is FREE. If anyone is interested in this, please register through the link provided below:

Once you are registered, you need to select the training you would like to take. MOPD is providing ASL interpreters for the Intake Specialist Training on January 12, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (This is the only date and time available with ASL interpreters.) Please select that training to be added to their roster. The training will be held at the Neighborhood Centers Inc. 4500 Bissonnet St., Bellaire, TX 77401, 2nd Floor Boardroom.

If you do register for this, please inform me. I need to make an accurate count of volunteers.
